What people are saying about the 60 point game and Kobe's comments

I was going to put this on the main page, but I wasn't able to get it up before the game yesterday.  As such, I'm putting it here.

Some thoughts from all over the internet about Arenas' 60 point game.

Gilbert? He was just unstoppable. It was as though he had a jet-pack inserted into his back. He was moving that fast all night. I'm sure the Lakers will complain about his 27 free throw attempts but from where I sat (underneath the basket near the Lakers bench) the calls were legit. Gil was getting past his man - Kobe, Smush Parker, Sasha Vujacic, Jordan Farmer, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, whatever, whoever, it didn't matte [sic] tonight.  -Ivan Carter
"GILBO FRAGGINS DROPS 60 ON ANDREW BYNUM AND THE MARVELOUS KBs!!!! 60!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that bounces Salieri's franchise record out of the building where it belongs, plus 60 point surpasses career points of James Lang... total points. including Hi Skool!" -Wizznutzz "All of which left him ready to take advantage of a rare combination -- a monstrous scoring game from a single player in a close contest. Generally, if a player goes off as Arenas did, his team is coasting by the fourth quarter and he's watching the scrubs clean up. But the Wizards needed every one of Arenas' 60 to keep the pesky Lakers from protecting their homecourt."  -Ric Bucher on the Daily Dime
"I think with the way he's been playing we all knew that it was only a matter of time before this happened," Chenier said. "And I don't think he's finished."  -Phil Chenier
""Ge could've had 70 easily.  He missed some 3s he usually makes. When he's focused, there's not a man in this league who can guard him."  Antonio Daniels .
"But making this performance so breathtaking were the conditions in which he played.

Arenas had 29 points by the end of the third quarter. Sensing something had to be done to curtail Arenas, Lakers coach Phil Jackson assigned Kobe Bryant -- who has no bigger fan in the league than Arenas -- to guard "The Hibachi" with just less nine minutes to play.

Jackson might as well have seasoned and tenderized Bryant before sending him out there.

While Bryant was spectacular in his own right -- he finished with 45 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists -- he was little more than a speed bump to Arenas. He saw, up close, most of Arenas' 31 points in the fourth quarter and overtime."  -John Mitchell

"The word unstoppable works here - Arenas went to the foul line an astonishing 27 times, and scored 16 points in the five-minute overtime, including 14 in a row. Kobe was held to 45."  -The Big Lead
"We love it when players just go off for no apparent reason; and not in the bad Carmelo Anthony way, but in the good, Gilbert Arenas just scored 60 way. That's right, Agent Zero went a tad insane on Sunday at The Forum -- or more so than usual, anyway -- and scored 60 on the Lakers, the first time anyone has done that since Wilt Chamberlain. Washington beat Los Angeles 147-141 in overtime, and Kobe Bryant has to be thinking 'What do I have to do?' after scoring 45 points of his own."  -Will Leitch, Deadspin
"Individually, it's funny.  He doesn't really seem to have much of a conscience.  I really don't think he does. Some of the shots that he took tonight, if you miss those, I mean they're just terrible shots.  They're just awful.  If you make them, they're unbelievable shots.  I don't get a chance to play him much, so I haven't gotten used to that mentality of just chucking it up there.  And he made some big ones, but I'll be ready next time."  -Kobe Bryant
"Come on, Kobe. If anyone has no conscience when taking shots, it's you. Maybe you haven't shown it this season, but you are the all time leader in forced shots. Arenas shot 17-32 from the field, it's not like he took 50 attempts. His shots may have seemed ridiculous, but anyone that's seen Arenas play this season knows he can (and does) hit those consistently."  Brett Edwards, NBA Fanhouse .
"He didn't like it when there was criticism of his high scoring games. Say the guy had a great night and move on (the "tip your hat" line he also put out there).  --Laker Blog's Brian Kamenetzky on Kobe's comments.
"Im [sic] just glad gil didnt sign with the clips when he had the chance. Dont[sic] want to see him 4 times a year, he is like iverson with a jumper."  -Commenter kwame a on Forum Blue and Gold
